Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal has expressed her commitment to start distributing land titles to squatters from the third week of Ashad.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers on the ministry-specific budget in the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, she informed that the government is working with a new action plan to resolve the problem of squatters. Minister Rawal commented that the problem of squatters has not been resolved because the previous commissions have become mere political recruitment centers.
She said that it is shameful that only 9,000 people have received land titles so far despite receiving 1.2 million applications in the past 30 years, and said that the government has made structural changes.
Now, a committee to be formed at the district level under the chairmanship of the Chief District Officer will work on the management of squatters, and a committee of experts will work at the center.
