Four MPs who were candidates for the presidency in the ruling National Independent Party's provincial convention have been defeated. The four MPs who were candidates for the presidency of the province have been defeated after rejecting the written request of the party's general secretary and chief whip Kabindra Burlakoti that the party's policy is not to attend district and provincial committees.

MP Janak Singh Dhami was the candidate for the presidency of the RSVP Sudurpaschim Province. Dhami, who was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Kanchanpur 1, was defeated for the presidency in the RSVP Sudurpaschim Province convention held on Monday. Earlier, RSVP MPs Achyutam Lamichhane for the Bagmati presidency, Rajan Gautam for the Gandaki presidency, and Manju Bhusal for the Lumbini presidency have been defeated. Lamichhane is a member of the House of Representatives from Nuwakot-2 and Gautam is a member of the House of Representatives from Nawalpur-1, and Bhusal is a member of the proportional system.

Prakash Bista has been elected as the president of the RSVP Sudurpaschim Province. Bista, who is the ad hoc committee chairman of the RSVP Sudurpaschim province, received 358 votes out of the votes cast in the convention. Dhami, who rejected the party's policy and ran for the provincial chairman position, received only 154 votes. Bista was elected president by a wide margin of 204 votes.

After being defeated for the party's provincial committee chairmanship, MP Dhami has urged people not to take his candidacy otherwise. 'In the internal elections of the party, ideological groups are formed. Elections are also held through the internal democratic system. This is natural. I sincerely request everyone to give it to them without taking it otherwise. We want to strengthen the practice of internal democracy within the party,' Dhami wrote. 'I am not even disturbed by this result. Ideas should not be allowed to die in the party.'

President-elect Bista had said that MPs should not be interested in party politics and should focus on their work. He had said that those elected by the people as MPs should work on the same responsibility. In the provincial convention hall, he had said, '(Convention representative) what have you sent them to do, to do politics within the party or to develop the country? If you want to do politics, then leave the honorable post and come and fight with Prakash Bista. We have not been able to complete the honorable's term, but we need another post?'

General Secretary Burlakoti had made the party policy public in the name of everyone, saying 'Regarding the party responsibilities of federal MPs'. In the letter sent on Jestha 21 before the district and provincial conventions, those who are in parliamentary responsibilities were asked not to take on party responsibilities.

'The role they are playing in the country's sovereign parliament, parliamentary committees and various legislative fields is exemplary. In the coming days, we have a serious responsibility to make our parliamentary activities more logical, policy-effective and people-oriented,' the letter issued by Burlakoti said. 'Amidst the intense parliamentary responsibility and the overwhelming busyness of the constituency, it seems that it may be practically challenging and even burdensome for them to handle the organizational responsibility of the geography other than their own constituency. Therefore, in order to maximize the utilization of their invaluable time, expertise and strength in the context of the country's policy-making and solving the problems of the citizens, it is requested that the party's policy be to encourage the members of the federal parliament to focus on their parliamentary role and the strategic role at the policy-making level within the party's central structure.'

Achyutam Lamichhane, who had become the Bagati Province President, rejected this party policy. Here, Utsav Aryal won with 416 votes, while Lamichhane was defeated with 414 votes. Two members of the House of Representatives had filed their candidacies for the Bagmati Province President. Lamichhane, elected from Nuwakot 2, was defeated, while Badan Kumar Bhandari, elected from Kavre 2, was rejected for the presidency.

Lamichhane had said that the one-position, one-person policy in the party would weaken leaders. Lamichhane had rejected the correspondence sent by General Secretary Burlakoti to federal MPs asking them not to take the leadership of provinces and districts. ‘One person weakens one position, everyone involved in politics should understand that,’ he had said, ‘General Secretary (Burlakoti) is an MP and Chief Whip, we do not consider this a position. If he was not an MP, he would not have been the Chief Whip. Where do you go from here?’

Naveen Tripathi was elected as the President of the Gandaki Province of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by defeating the MP and the outgoing President Rajan Gautam. Tripathi was elected by getting 236 votes while Gautam got 185 votes. The candidates for the President, Madhav Prasad Kandel, got 11 votes and Hari Bahadur Karki got 2 votes.

While announcing his candidacy for the Gandaki Province President, Gautam had objected to General Secretary Burlakoti's letter. Gautam, who was defeated for the President post, was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Nawalpur 1. 'It is my responsibility to form a party along with the law. I should be able to say that I will form a party by making laws. The role of the parliament and the role of the party are different things,' Gautam said. 'General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti urged the MPs to go down and not fight.' Where did the idea that MPs should not be allowed to become provincial presidents come from? Why couldn't you stop them? If MPs in the province were asked not to become provincial presidents, then the provincial president should also be requested not to become MPs in the future. Gautam alleged that such a decision may have been taken by the General Secretary to prevent those leading the local and district committees of the party from contesting for local and provincial assembly seats in the coming days. While Gautam was making this statement, General Secretary Burlakoti was present at the same program.
