The Madhesh Travel Mart has been launched in Birgunj with the slogan 'Ghumao Madhesh: Agriculture, tourism, sports, industry and trade of Madhesh Province, the main basis of Madhesh prosperity'. The mart, organized on Friday with an emphasis on tourism promotion, domestic and foreign tourist attraction and cross-border tourism cooperation, was inaugurated by Bhola Prasad Adhikari, Deputy Mayor of Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City.

At the inauguration ceremony, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATA) Madhesh Province President and Mart Coordinator Mohan Sharma Lamichhane claimed that the Madhesh Travel Mart will play an important role in attracting tourists not only to Madhesh but also to the entire country. He said that Nepal's weather, natural diversity and original cuisine could become a point of attraction for Indian tourists compared to India.

Hari Gautam, President of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that economic prosperity can be achieved through the tourism sector. He said that sustainable development of the tourism sector would be possible if tourists were made to feel that Nepal is a safe destination.

Koshi Pradesh NATA Chairman Punya Prasad Bhattarai said that tourism is considered the main basis of economic prosperity and there is no alternative to investment and promotion in this sector. He mentioned that religious destinations like Janaki Temple and Gadhimai Temple in Madhesh have great potential for religious tourism.

Indian travel and tour entrepreneur Sachin Sharma said that Indian tourists have to face various administrative and managerial problems during their visit to Nepal. He pointed out the need to manage the transportation cost from Pokhara to Muktinath even though the demand for the trip is high.

Thori Rural Municipality Chairman Lal Bahadur Shrestha said that the local level is trying to develop the Thori region as a tourist destination. He said that although security was the main challenge in the past, now the focus is on building tourism infrastructure. He informed that a plan has been taken forward to attract tourists by constructing structures including zip lines and swimming pools in the Lal Pahad and Goledanda areas.

Shrestha said that the tendency to unnecessarily harass vehicles with Indian number plates will hinder tourism promotion and said that tourist-friendly behavior is necessary. Indian tourism entrepreneur Saket Ray said that the tourism industries of both countries will benefit if cooperation between Nepal and Indian tourism entrepreneurs increases. Indian Consul General in Birgunj Devi Sahay Meena said that there is a strong foundation of religious tourism between Nepal and India and said that destinations such as Pashupatinath Temple, Muktinath Temple, Manakamana Temple, Janaki Temple and Gadhimai Temple should be further promoted.

Nepal Tourism Board Executive Chief Hikmat Singh Air emphasized that the movement of Indian tourists to Nepal should be easy and hassle-free. He also pointed out the possibility of developing a new tourism circuit by connecting Parsa with Lumbini.

At the program, Deputy Mayor of Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City Bhola Prasad Adhikari said that although Nepal has immense natural heritage and historical and cultural heritage, it has not been effectively marketed.

The organizers have stated that tourism entrepreneurs, hoteliers, travel agencies, government agencies and tourism-related stakeholders from Nepal and India are participating in the 3-day travel mart. The goal is to promote tourist destinations in Madhesh Province, create tourism packages and expand cross-border tourism cooperation through the mart.
