Doctors involved in orthopedic treatment, trauma management and orthopedic treatment have been organized for the first time in Nepal.

The Trauma Society of Nepal has been formed under the chairmanship of orthopedic specialist Dr. Pramod Lamichhane. The senior vice-president of the society is Dr. Shailendra K. Duwal Shrestha, vice-president Dr. Hemant Kumar Gupta, general secretary Dr. Vijayandra Adhikari, treasurer Dr. Alok Pandey, joint secretary Dr. Pawin Thapa, and co-treasurer Dr. Sanjit Jha. The patron of the society is Prof. Dr. Ramesh Prasad Singh. Chairman Lamichhane said that a 14-member society has been formed.

He said that the society was formed with the aim of making orthopedic services more accessible, quality and accessible to the general public. ‘The problem of trauma (serious injuries) due to road accidents, workplace injuries and other disasters is becoming serious,’ he said, ‘The society aims to accelerate the exchange of experience, information and latest technology among orthopedic and neurology specialists.’

The society has included quality treatment, awareness raising, research and training, capacity building and research in its objectives and scope.

The society has also put forward plans to organize various workshops and seminars with the participation of national and international experts, fellowship programs for new surgeons, awards for outstanding surgeons, free health camps and other national and international awareness programs.

Chairman Lamichhane said that the society was formed by orthopedic doctors from all seven provinces and representatives have been appointed at the provincial level.
