Photojournalist and mountaineer Purnima Shrestha has said that the feedback she received from her friends has inspired her to climb the mountain. She said this in a discussion titled ‘Mountaineer-Mountain’ organized in the sixth edition of ‘Nirbhik Nari’.

‘Initially, I did not think that I would continue mountain climbing. I climbed the mountain because I liked the mountain. It was not even a dream since childhood. My family did not raise me to climb the mountain,’ Purnima said, ‘But after climbing the mountain, I was also inspired by the feedback I received from my friends. As I achieved success, my confidence grew, and I started climbing the mountain.’ Before the discussion, Purnima presented photos and videos at the program and shared her mountaineering experience.

While climbing the mountain, many people used to tell Purnima in the early days, ‘I am climbing the mountain without any work.’ I'm addicted.' However, after the fame she gained while climbing the mountains, her collaborations with brands, and her career in the mountains, society began to accept her. 'At first, it was difficult to explain to society. Now that I've continued with this, I've found that there is a lack of women in this field. I've seen that there are many opportunities here,' she said.

She says there is no discrimination between men and women on the basis of ability in climbing. She believes that climbing mountains requires confidence, mental toughness, and physical preparation more than gender. She said that being a woman did not feel any particular obstacle while climbing the mountains. 'There is no such thing as a woman or a man when climbing mountains, it takes courage,' she said.

According to Shrestha, many women are still hesitant to step out of their comfort zone. She said that since mountaineering is an expensive sport, women's participation is relatively low. "Many people think that climbing mountains requires only a strong body. But in reality, mountaineering requires both mental and physical strength," she said. Stating that women can achieve success in any field they choose, she said that confidence and strong will are necessary to move forward in challenging fields.
