Senior Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla has returned to the Supreme Court after a 20-day long leave. Malla's bench has been scheduled for Monday. Malla had gone on leave after Manoj Kumar Sharma, who was fourth in the ranking, was appointed as the Chief Justice. Malla's single bench has scheduled 7 petitions for hearing. Malla was limited to being a senior judge after the Constitutional Council recommended Sharma's name as the Chief Justice according to the roll call. On April 24, 2083, the Constitutional Council recommended Sharma's name instead of Malla for the post of Chief Justice. Sharma's name was recommended on the proposal of the Council's Chairman and Prime Minister Balendra Shah. Malla had gone on leave for 20 days after congratulating Sharma on his appointment on April 6. On 5th Jestha, President Ram Chandra Poudel appointed Sharma, who was approved by the parliamentary hearing, and administered the oath of office. On the same day, he reached the Supreme Court and assumed responsibility.

Malla is still the senior-most judge in the Supreme Court and remains a member of the Judicial Council. Now that he has returned to work, it seems that Chief Justice Sharma can also call a meeting of the Judicial Council. Currently, there are three vacant posts in the Supreme Court and five in the High Court, including the Chief Justice.
