Dawa Sherpa, a mountaineering guide from Okhaldhunga who went missing on Mount Everest six days ago, has been found in the Khumbu Icefall area. According to Pemba Sherpa, executive director of ATK Expeditions, he was found sliding down in the snow.
'It is a surprising incident in itself that Dawa Sherpa was found sliding down,' said director Pemba. According to him, the Sherpa's fingers have been damaged by the snow and he is being brought to Kathmandu for treatment.
On Wednesday, a helicopter from Kathmandu-based Altitude Air was deployed to the Everest area for search and rescue. According to Captain Vivek Khadka, the helicopter conducted an extensive search from the 5,200-meter-high Everest base camp to below Camp III. Two helpers were also involved in the rescue operation.
According to information provided by Captain Khadka from Lukla, the rescue team is now preparing to reach the place where Sherpa was found and bring him to Kathmandu via the base camp.
According to the information received, Dawa Sherpa had gone to climb Mount Everest with a Polish citizen. On the way back, he lost contact around the third camp area on Jestha 15 (Friday), according to the Himalayan Traverse Adventure Pvt. Ltd., to which he belongs.
It is said that 7 climbers and guides have died so far in the Everest and Makalu areas this season.
