775 electric vehicles that entered Nepal-China border checkpoint Korala have been seized.

The Armed Police Force inspected the roads from Kaski to Mustang and seized these vehicles from Wednesday night to Thursday morning.

A government official said that the vehicles were seized for further investigation on suspicion of a leak of information about the change in tax rates on electric vehicles in the budget.

The government mechanism was mobilized to search for such vehicles after information was leaked that vehicles were inspected and passed before the budget statement in collusion with customs officials, customs agents and traders.

The government had changed the tax rates on electric vehicles in the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84. Before that, a large number of such vehicles had entered through various checkpoints.

These vehicles brought in from Korala checkpoint were being taken to various districts and were taken under control with the help of security personnel after receiving the information, an official from the Ministry of Home Affairs informed.

An Armed Police Force team was deployed to check the road section coming from Korala checkpoint overnight and the vehicles were taken under control, an officer from the Armed Police Force Headquarters also confirmed.

The seized vehicles did not have number plates  . An official informed that preparations are being made to hand over all the vehicles to the customs.

DIG Dipendra Shah, Chief of the Armed Police Force Muktinath Bahini Headquarters, Gandaki, said that an investigation is underway into the seized vehicles and then they will be handed over to the customs.
