Political parties did not allow the National Assembly meeting to proceed in protest against the statement made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah. The Monday meeting of the National Assembly was adjourned once. The National Assembly meeting held after the adjournment has also been adjourned until Tuesday after political party lawmakers continued to obstruct it.
There was opposition in the National Assembly over the statement made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah in the House of Representatives meeting regarding the border dispute between Nepal and India. Demands ranging from the Prime Minister to publicly apologize to the formation of an investigation committee were raised in the National Assembly meeting on Monday.
Before the meeting was disrupted, UML lawmaker Ram Kumari Jhankri demanded that Prime Minister Shah publicly apologize for his statement. Jhankri said that Prime Minister Shah spoke against the national interest by saying that Nepal had encroached on India's land while India was encroaching on Nepal's land. 'If Nepal has encroached on the border, in whose interest is the Prime Minister of Nepal?' We are ashamed. The question has arisen whether such a Prime Minister can protect Nepali self-respect, Nepal's nationality, and national integrity.
Jhankri, who is also a former minister, also asked what was the hidden mood behind Prime Minister Shah's statement. 'What is the Prime Minister's mood? I don't think he said it carelessly,' she said.
Congress MP Ranjit Karna had demanded that the National Assembly form an investigation committee to investigate Prime Minister Balendra Shah's statement regarding the border dispute between Nepal and India. 'I would like to request the Prime Minister, in which places has the Nepal government encroached on land in neighboring India? I would like to request him to provide information,' Karna said. 'If he is unable to provide it, he should publicly apologize to the people. A special decision will have to be taken in Parliament today as to what the Prime Minister said. I demand that the National Assembly also form an investigation committee for this.'
NCP MP Rajendra Lakshmi Gaire had demanded that Prime Minister Shah clarify on what basis he made the statement. She questioned whether he made the statement to please India.
After the MPs of political parties stood up and disrupted the National Assembly meeting, Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal adjourned it until 1:15 pm on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Shah, while answering a question from Shram Sanskriti Party MP Aren Rai in the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, had said that efforts were being made to resolve the Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura disputes diplomatically. But in the process, he had said, 'You may be surprised to know that I also came to know after becoming Prime Minister recently that not only has India encroached on Nepal's land, but Nepal has also encroached on many lands of India.'
