Shoyab Shrestha of Bagmati Province and Anita Adhikari of the departmental team APF Club have won gold medals in the 7th National Fencing Championship.

Shoyab won the senior men's EP and Anita won the senior women's foil.

Shoyab defeated Jung Giri of APF in the senior men's EP held at the Nepal Taekwondo Academy hall in Satdobato to win the gold. Prashant Gurung of Gandaki Province and Sukiram Tamang of APF won the bronze medal. In the women's foil final, Anita defeated Manisha Shrestha of the departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club. Sophia Chand of Bagmati and Urmila Majhi of APF won the third place.

The competition, organized by the Nepal Fencing Association, which began on Saturday, was inaugurated by Siddhi Byanjanakar, Chief Advisor to the Minister of Education and Sports. At the inauguration ceremony chaired by Nepal Fencing Association President Sunil Kumar Shrestha, Nepal Fencing Association General Secretary Sujan Lal Shrestha alleged that fencing has not progressed as expected due to the narrow-mindedness of the previous government. He said that the government has favored some and neglected others in considering every sport in the same light.

Four events are being competed in the competition. The individual events include senior men's EP, senior women's foil, senior men's team and senior women's team. 96 players from 6 teams including Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as departmental teams APF and Army are participating in the competition.
