Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja (Nimsdai) climbed Mount Everest without oxygen on Friday on the occasion of World Everest Day.
With this, Purja has completed his 54th ascent of mountains above 8,000 meters. He said that 25 of the 54 ascents were made without the help of artificial oxygen.
He is climbing two more mountains this week. 'I am leaving to climb Makalu tomorrow,' Purja told Kantipur on Saturday morning, 'After that, I have plans to climb Kanjanjunga. After finishing in Nepal, I will go to Ketu Himal in Pakistan on June 10.'
He said that since climbing mountains is his job, he will continue to climb 8,000-meter mountains.
This time, his team had to change the planned plan due to adverse weather conditions before climbing Mount Everest. Purja said that he had to wait an extra day before climbing Mount Everest due to the weather being unfavorable.
Taking on the responsibility of the expedition leader, he had to pay special attention to the preparation, safety and coordination of the entire team. 28 members of his group have successfully reached the summit with him.
He said that this climb was long, challenging and a test of patience. He also praised the dedication and courage of the entire climbers and Sherpa team.
Born in the Dhaulagiri area of Myagdi, Purja grew up in Chitwan. Before mountaineering, he was in the British Gurkha Army. He joined the Gurkha Army in 2003 at the age of 18 and served for 6 years in the Gurkhas and 10 years in the British Special Forces SBS (Special Boat Service).
After his military career, he entered mountaineering and has achieved extraordinary achievements in the world mountaineering field in a short time. Through various record-breaking climbs and high-mountain rescue missions, he has taken Nepal to new heights at the international level.
