Pasang Dawa (Padawa) Sherpa, who has climbed Mount Everest 31 times and is the second person in the world to climb Mount Everest the most, has been awarded the ‘International Everest Award’ on the occasion of the 73rd International Everest Day. The amount of this award given by the Government of Nepal is Rs 100,000.
Pasang Dawa (Padawa) Sherpa, a resident of Dingboche, Solukhumbu, was awarded the award at a program organized by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation at the National Theatre in Jamal on Thursday.
According to Ramkrishna Lamichhane, Director General of the Department of Tourism, this year the award has been given to Padawa Sherpa as Kami Rita Sherpa has already received this award.
Kami Rita Sherpa has set a world record for the 32nd time by climbing Mount Everest this year as well. Padawa Sherpa is known as the second most successful climber in the world with 31 ascents.
In the program, helicopter pilot Priya Adhikari, affiliated with Heli Everest, has been awarded the ‘Tenzing-Hillary Search and Rescue Award’ worth Rs 50,000 for her contribution to search and rescue operations in the high Himalayan region.
Similarly, Tenzing David Sherpa, who achieved the ‘Triple Crown’ by successfully climbing Mount Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse in 2026, has been awarded the ‘Tenzing-Hillary Record Climber Award’ worth Rs 50,000.
Purnima Shrestha, who set a record of climbing Mount Everest three times in a single season last year, has been awarded the ‘Tenzing-Hillary Record Climber Award’ worth Rs 50,000. The ‘Pema Doma Women Climber Award’ has been presented, while geographer Prof. Bishal Nath Upreti has been presented with the ‘Tenzing-Hillary Study and Research Award’ worth Rs 50,000 for his contribution to the study and research of the Nepali Himalayan region, the ministry has said.
On this occasion, members of the ‘Icefall Doctor’ team who fixed ropes in the Khumbu Icefall area have also been honored. The honorees include Tshering Tenzing Sherpa, Ang Sarki Sherpa, Dawa Jangbu Sherpa, Tendu Sherpa, Ngima Tenji Sherpa, Pura Cheten Sherpa, Dawa Chhiri Sherpa, Sonam Geljen Sherpa and Mingma Geljen Sherpa.
Similarly, certificates of appreciation have also been presented to the rope fixing team that opened the route on Mount Everest and Lhotse. The team includes Mingma Dorji Sherpa, Pem Dorji Sherpa, Pasang Tashi Sherpa, Lopsang Bhote, Ming Nurbu Sherpa, Chomba Tenji Sherpa, Guru Bhote, Mingma Dorchi Sherpa, Furtenji Sherpa, Pasang Tenzing Sherpa, Ming Temba Sherpa, Dendi Sherpa and Pasang Ngima Sherpa.
The team of liaison officers deployed at the temporary field office of the Department of Tourism was also honored at the program. Those honored include Khimlal Gautam, Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha, Tshiring Sherpa, Krishna Kumar Magar and Sushil Sharma.
