Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Geeta Chaudhary has said that the government has paid special attention to ensuring that farmers do not face a shortage of fertilizers. While answering questions from lawmakers on Wednesday, Minister Chaudhary also informed that the government has recently started the process of purchasing 50,000 metric tons of fertilizers from India to ensure that farmers do not face a shortage of fertilizers. She said that there has been a problem in the production and supply of fertilizers due to the conflict in the Middle East. 'I would like to inform you that the Nepal government has been providing chemical fertilizers to farmers on a subsidy basis on a cost-sharing basis.'
So far in the current fiscal year, 554,762 metric tons of chemical fertilizers have been supplied, while 463,160 metric tons have been sold to farmers. Currently, there is a stock of 144,585 metric tons of fertilizers that are in the warehouses and have already entered Nepal,' Minister Chaudhary said.
Minister Chaudhary said that about 600,000 metric tons of fertilizer will be provided to farmers under subsidy during the current fiscal year till Ashar.
She also said that the ministry has paid special attention to ensuring that there is no shortage of fertilizer during the paddy sowing season. Minister Chaudhary also said that the ministry has asked suppliers with whom fertilizer supply agreements have been signed to supply fertilizer on time.
Minister Chaudhary said that the procurement process of fertilizer has been started accordingly after receiving in-principle approval from the Council of Ministers to purchase 50,000 metric tons of fertilizer from India through G2G.
