President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that sustainable mountain tourism, responsible mountaineering and protection of the mountain environment are the indispensable needs of today.
Addressing the Everest climbers from different countries of the world at the ‘Morning Meeting of Everest Climbers with the President of Nepal’ program organized on Wednesday, President Poudel stated that Mount Everest is not only a precious natural heritage of Nepal but also of the world. President Poudel said that its conservation, promotion, publicity and balanced use have made a significant contribution to Nepal’s tourism and economy.
President Poudel mentioned that global warming, the effects of climate change and increasing waste management in the mountaineering sector have become the main challenges of the present. He expressed the view that further cooperation and efforts are needed to make mountaineering safe, sustainable and technology-friendly while protecting the environment and biodiversity of the Everest region.
Poudel said that such conferences are of special importance in international cooperation, dialogue and raising public awareness for the protection of mountains and the mountain environment. President Poudel also expressed his belief that the experience and knowledge of Everest climbers will contribute to keeping Mount Everest, the pride of the world, alive in its natural form.
There are around 200 Everest climbers from 20 countries at the Everest Summit.
