South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SAWEN) Secretary General Dr. Krishna Prasad Acharya has met with Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal.

During the meeting, Secretary General Dr. Acharya informed about the upcoming General Assembly of SAWEN and requested the Government of Nepal to facilitate and support the organization of the event.

SAWEN is an intergovernmental organization of South Asian countries, whose secretariat is in Kathmandu. The organization has 8 member countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This organization was established to promote coordination and cooperation among member countries in controlling illegal wildlife trade at the regional level and implementing wildlife laws.

During the meeting, Secretary General Dr. Acharya informed the Foreign Minister about the role SAWEN has been playing in controlling illegal wildlife trade at the national, regional and international levels.

Minister Khanal made it clear that he is committed to making the upcoming General Assembly a success and strengthening the Secretariat as a whole. The meeting was also attended by Secretariat representative Upendra Pokharel.

In addition, on Wednesday, the meeting of the organizing committee of the first general assembly of SAWEN was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Buddhisagar Poudel, Director General of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and Coordinator of the organizing committee, at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Babarmahal, Kathmandu.

In the meeting, necessary discussions were held in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment, Department of Forest and Soil Conservation, and the Secretariat for the successful organization of the General Assembly.
