The Parsa District Court has ordered the release of Durga Prasai, who was arrested in a controversial speech case, on a regular date.

According to District Court Judge Prabhakar Mallik, the court's bench headed by Chief Justice Gayatri Prasad Regmi issued the order on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Parsa District Police Office had produced Prasai in court on Monday, but the court sent him back saying that it was not able to see the case. The police were investigating Prasai under the Electronic Transactions Act and the Offences Against the State Act. During that time, the remand period had been extended twice.

According to the police, he is accused of spreading hatred and malice against public decency through various media and social media, affecting ethnic and communal harmony, and creating contempt for the government. Prasai was arrested on the night of Jestha 40 from Siddhartha Diyalo Hotel in Birgunj.
