Addressing the 'Massive Assembly for the Elimination of Child Marriage and Dowry System' program organized at Gaucharan Bazaar, Chandranagar Rural Municipality-2, Sarlahi on Sunday, Deputy Speaker Thakur said that she will continue to fight for the end of the dowry system.
She recalled that she had raised the issue of dowry system in the first meeting of the House of Representatives. Thakur expressed her commitment to continue raising her voice in the meetings of the House of Representatives despite being in the role of Deputy Speaker. She said that dowry system is a big disease for Madhesi society and she will continue to raise her voice until it is eradicated. She said that women in Madhesh are facing various types of pain and violence due to dowry.
In the program, Chandranagar Rural Municipality honored parents who educate their daughters up to grade 12 and get them married only after they complete 20 years of age, and couples who get married without taking dowry.
In the program, the deputy mayors of Madhesh municipalities who are working to eliminate child marriage and dowry were included in the program to discuss the efforts made so far, achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and future directions, informed Rural Municipality Chairman Rajkumar Mahato.
