Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ishwar Karki has urged stakeholders to fully follow the weather forecast to reduce road accidents and loss of life and property during the monsoon.
He said this while inaugurating a monsoon-targeted awareness program and help desk (stall) organized by the Valley Traffic Police Office. AIG Karki noted that weather forecasting technology has become very reliable in recent times and drew attention to the fact that ignoring it has led to major accidents. He also instructed transport entrepreneurs and drivers to prioritize human safety over profit.
He appealed to both drivers and passengers to abandon the mentality of driving in risky areas and to postpone their journeys in bad weather.
‘Nowadays, with the development of technology, weather information has started to be accurate, but we do not follow it. "If we accept the forecast and plan our journey accordingly, we can avoid potential risks," he said. "The double standard of taking risks and moving forward despite being stopped by the police and not being rescued after getting into trouble has added complexity. We should be more vigilant about our own safety."
AIG Karki emphasized that cooperation between all parties is needed to prevent a repeat of the tragic incidents of vehicles and passengers going missing due to floods and landslides like in previous years.
