The Parsa District Court has extended the remand of medical practitioner and coordinator of the Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Campaign Nepal, Durga Prasad Prasai for 4 days.
The police arrested Prasai from Birgunj last Monday night on the grounds that his statements made through the media and social media had spread hatred and malice against public decency. DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, police spokesperson of the Parsa District Police Office, informed that the court has granted him a 4-day remand for investigation into the Electronic Transactions Act and crimes against the state.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Parsa police had obtained permission from the District Court for the first time to extend the remand for investigation against him for 3 days for the investigation into those crimes.
Prasain was arrested by the police from Siddhartha Diyalo Hotel in Birgunj on the grounds that her statements were against public decency, were inciting hatred and malice, were affecting ethnic and communal harmony, and were in a state of contempt for the government.
Prasain's supporters protested in the area around the District Police Office, Parsa, on Thursday. The protesters shouted slogans against the government and the police, demanding her release.
