Chinese national Shi Junji's team has become the first team to climb Mount Everest and Lhotse in the spring of this year. Shi's team climbed Mount Everest at 8:56 am on April 31 and reached the peak of Lhotse at 11:25 am on June 4.

Shi has also become the first climber from China's Gannan province to climb Mount Everest. The 35-year-old Shi was accompanied by Mount Everest climber Nimadorje Tamang from Dolakha and Dawa Nuru Rai Sherpa from Solukhumbu. According to Utsav Pathak, operator of Himalayan Mountaineering Expeditions, this year, Shi's team is the first to climb Mount Everest (8,848 meters) and Lhotse (8,516 meters) in the same season. Xi is currently an official working at the Central Enterprise of China through the Gannan State Department of the Communist Party of China.

After the climb, Xi expressed his happiness at being able to climb both mountains in one go. ‘It was very difficult.’ But, with the help of Norbu and Dawa, the climb was successful,’ he said, ‘This time our team was the first to climb both mountains. I am proud that we were able to climb both mountains.’

Usually, after climbing Everest, climbers descend to the fourth base camp. However, Xi’s team reached the second base camp on the second day after descending the fourth base camp and climbed Lhotse again. ‘We climbed Everest and descended to Base Two, and from there we participated in the climb as soon as the route to Lhotse opened,’ he said, ‘We were physically and mentally prepared and managed to climb Lhotse on the first attempt.’

Nimadorje of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9, Dolakha, who participated in the climb, is a climber who set a record by climbing five mountains above 8,000 meters in Pakistan in 45 days.

According to the Himalayan Mountaineering Festival Pathak, Nimadorje has successfully climbed Mount Everest 9 times so far. Nimadorje has climbed mountains above 8,000 meters 26 times. This time, he said, he was able to successfully climb Lhotse within a week of climbing Mount Everest. "Usually, after climbing Everest, climbers go down to Camp Pho and rest," he said, "but Xi's team went down to Camp Two without resting and participated in the Lhotse climb again." He said that this requires a lot of courage and physical preparation.
