UML has decided to continue the membership of former President Vidya Bhandari . Bhandari's membership was renewed after Chairman KP Sharma Oli proposed it in the Central Secretariat meeting on Monday. With this decision, the long-standing 'conflict' between Bhandari and Oli has also come to an end.

Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta informed that the Central Secretariat meeting held at Chairman Oli's residence Gundu decided to renew Bhandari's membership. 'An important decision has been made today. It has been decided to grant membership to former President Vidya Bhandari,' he said. With this, the relationship between former President Bhandari and Chairman Oli has improved. After the UML shrank to a small size in the 21 Falgun elections, dialogue began between the two leaders.

The relationship between Oli and Bhandari improved when UML leaders including vice-presidents Bishnu Poudel, Gokarna Bista, Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai and others were saying that the leadership should be restructured due to the election results. While Oli was recovering from a stone surgery, she had reached Gundu, Bhaktapur on 28 Baisakh to meet Oli. There, the two leaders discussed political issues for about two hours. Ishwor Pokharel, a leader close to Bhandari and former UML vice-president, said that there was no need to increase the distance between the two leaders, stating that there was a discussion on political issues. ‘I have received information that the two leaders discussed political issues,’ he said, ‘There is no need to increase the distance between the leaders.’ He said that at that time, a ‘non-political dispute’ was raised by keeping Bhandari’s membership ‘pending’.

As a result of the Gundu dialogue, UML made Bhandari the chief guest on the 33rd memorial day of former General Secretary Madan Bhandari and leader Jivraj Ashrit on Sunday. UML Central Office Chief Secretary Bhishma Adhikari had gone to Bhandari's residence to invite her to be the chief guest at the program held in memory of 'Madan-Aashrit'. He had invited her to be the chief guest because it was 'President Oli's request'. As the chief guest, Bhandari had expressed her views on unity and relations with the people. She also expressed her views on the work to be done for UML reform.

A leader said that Oli understood that it would not make a difference if Bhandari was made active in party politics after the election. 'After Vidya Bhandari renewed her membership and prepared to become the party president, KP Oli was going to stop her.' He has become the president for the third term in Poush 2082,' he said, 'Oli has come to the conclusion that he should not increase the distance with Vidya now.'

Deputy General Secretary Bhatta said that Bhandari's coming to the party leadership will be as per the decision. 'The party will decide on former President Bhandari's coming to the leadership. Now, the decision to grant membership has only been made,' he said after the secretariat meeting. Bhandari's personal secretary Rajkumar Rai said that it is a positive matter for the party to make him the chief guest at the 'Madan-Aashrit' memorial program. 'It is a positive thing to give the former president an environment to be active in the party with respect,' he said, 'This will create an environment that will yield good results in the coming days.' The relationship between Oli and Bhandari began to improve when UML leaders including Vice Presidents Bishnu Poudel, Gokarna Bista, Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai and others were saying that the leadership should be restructured due to the election results.

Bhandari had announced on 'Madan Jayanti' on 14 Asad that she would join active UML politics with the aim of becoming the party leader. Oli was shocked when he said that he was active in UML to take the party leadership. After that, a controversy erupted in UML after the central committee meeting on 5 and 6 Shrawan kept Bhandari's membership 'pending'. A year earlier, Bhandari had renewed her membership at the central office in Chyasal, but the central committee had not recognized it. The meeting had concluded that former President Bhandari should not enter active politics.
