Manoj Kumar Sharma has taken oath as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Sharma took the oath of office and secrecy from President Ram Chandra Poudel at a ceremony held at the President's Office, Sheetal Niwas, on Tuesday evening.

Sharma was appointed as the Chief Justice by President Poudel on Tuesday itself. Earlier on Tuesday, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee unanimously approved Sharma as the Chief Justice.

Sharma had submitted his action plan related to judicial reforms to the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. He also answered questions raised by the MPs. During the hearing, the MPs raised questions about pressure not to register a petition against the bench, groupism in the court, and the decisions made in cases including the Ncell tax dispute.

The Constitutional Council meeting on April 24 decided to recommend Supreme Court Justice Sharma for appointment as the future Chief Justice.
