A tiger was found dead on Thursday morning on the Khata Biological Trail. The adult tiger died after falling into a snare in Madhuban Municipality-1, Somalpur and Bhalni Bhatuwa Community Forests.
District Forest Officer Vijayraj Subedi of the Division Forest Office, Bardiya said that the investigation revealed that the tiger died after falling into a rope snare made of iron wire. Poachers had set up traps with the aim of killing wild animals including wild boar and chital. The snare net got stuck in the tiger's neck.
Subedi said that an investigation team will soon be formed under the coordination of a senior forest officer regarding the incident of killing the tiger. 'This is a very serious incident,' he said, 'the culprits cannot escape.' All the tiger's organs are intact.'
A team from Bardiya National Park and the National Trust for Nature Conservation conducted a post-mortem on the tiger. The Division Forest Office has said that it will take a few days to receive the post-mortem report. Bardiya National Park Information Officer Saroj Mani Poudel said that the investigation revealed that poachers had set traps for the wildlife with the intention of killing it.
