Four people have been arrested on charges of arranging a settlement in a rape case. The mother of the victim girl of Yashodhara Rural Municipality-5, the former ward chairperson of the ward, the father of the accused youth and the writer have been arrested on charges of being involved in arranging a settlement in a rape case.
Former ward chairperson Naeem alias Lais Pathan, the mother of the victim girl, the father of the accused youth Mohammad Shafiq Pathan and the writer Rambriksha Kohar, who was involved in arranging the settlement, were arrested, said District Police Spokesperson DSP Ripendra Kumar Singh.
26-year-old Ilyas Pathan of Yashodhara Rural Municipality-5 is accused of raping a 19-year-old girl in his own house on April 21. The accused Pathan is absconding. A case was registered on April 23 after the victim girl's mother filed a complaint after the incident. While the investigation was underway after issuing an arrest warrant against the perpetrator, 55-year-old Lais Pathan and the victim's mother reached the District Police Office on April 10 with the settlement paper.
The police took both of them into custody and questioned them. During the interrogation, they said that they had tried to trap the accused in the extortion to make him suffer due to a land dispute between the two families. However, the police have claimed that the extortionist tried to cover up the crime by making a transaction by showing the land dispute as a matter of course. After the transaction came to light, the police had also taken into custody the father of the accused, Mohammad Shafiq.
The police have also recovered Rs 1 lakh 3 thousand 550 of various rates from Shafiq, the police said. DSP Singh said that Shafiq was involved in settling the case by using the victim's mother for unfair advantage to save his son. The police have also arrested Rambriksha Kahar, 45, of Yashodhara Rural Municipality-8, who wrote the settlement paper in response to the registered complaint. DSP Singh said that the four people arrested in the incident have been remanded in custody for five days by the court under Section 227 'A' of the Penal Code 2074 BS, under the heading of not being allowed to enter into a settlement agreement in a criminal case.
