The demolition of houses and huts built by encroaching on the land of the Municipal Development Committee in Kohalpur-11, Banke has begun. The municipality has started demolishing the houses and huts by using dozers since Saturday. Some families are demolishing their houses and carrying their belongings themselves. The municipality has issued a notice again on Sunday, urging the immediate evacuation of the remaining houses and huts without any confusion as the interim order issued by the Supreme Court on Baisakh 25 does not apply to the encroached land of the Municipal Development Committee. The municipality has used dozers on houses and huts built by encroaching on about 36 bighas of land (around the cricket field) under the committee's Kohalpur 3 (B). On Baisakh 16, the municipality had issued a notice and given an ultimatum to vacate the land within 10 days. The general public is continuing to move after the municipality's notice.

Kohalpur Municipality Police Chief Bir Bahadur Thapa said that the demolition of encroached houses and huts in the area has begun since Saturday. He said that 40 houses were demolished by using two dozers on Saturday. ‘We have used dozers on the houses and huts that were vacated after taking away the belongings,’ he said, ‘The process of removing the belongings is currently ongoing.’ There is a plan to use 6/7 dozers to demolish the structures.’

The municipality has also stated that it has arranged a holding center for temporary residence. 73 families of actual landless squatters have come in contact with the municipality and the municipality has stated that the process of arranging temporary residence in the holding center for their management is underway.

The municipality has also started the process of identifying actual squatters and landless Dalits who have been encroaching on public and government land for years. There are 751 houses and huts on the encroached land of the Municipal Development Committee in Kohalpur-11. The municipality has stated that 153 landless Dalits and 141 landless squatters have been identified while identifying the families who filled the form.

According to Municipal Mayor Purna Prasad Acharya, this fact was discovered during the collection of personal records of houses and huts built by encroaching on an area of ​​about 36 bighas (cricket field) under the committee's Kohalpur-3 (B). According to him, 751 households, including 416 unorganized settlers, 172 landless Dalits and 163 landless squatters, have been living in the area.

In a preliminary study conducted in coordination with the concerned bodies, it was found that 11 landless Dalits and one landless squatter have land in other districts as well, informed Mayor Acharya. He said that an investigation is underway by the concerned body as complaints have been received regarding the involvement of some middlemen in preparing fake documents, buying and selling land and taking financial benefits during settlement development and settlement.

The municipality has stated that as per the decision of the board meeting on Chaitra 5, 2080, the data has been collected by calling for applications with self-declaration and the details obtained have been kept safe. The municipality has managed a holding center for landless squatters who have been encroaching on government and public land.
