Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has said that the role of academic research and intellectual debate is indispensable to make Nepal's foreign policy timely, objective and effective.
Addressing a special function organized on the occasion of the anniversary of the Nepal Council of World Affairs (NCWA), he said that foreign policy is now not limited to high-level visits and treaties and agreements.
He said that issues such as the safety and dignity of Nepali workers employed abroad, access of Nepali youth to the global market through the digital economy, and ensuring vaccines and medicines during the pandemic are Nepal's diplomatic priorities.
'In today's changing situation, Nepal has the challenge of integrating its economy into the global market while keeping its sovereignty intact. In such a situation, the role of independent and non-political think tanks like NCWA has become even more important. Now, foreign policy is not limited to high-level visits and treaties and agreements; it is connected to the daily lives of citizens,' he said.
Minister Khanal mentioned that this organization, established in 1948, has been acting as a vigilant watchdog in Nepal's diplomatic development.
