Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel has suggested that injustice and excess should not be done to landless squatters in the name of protecting government land.

Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the 50th founding day of Birendranagar Municipality on Friday, he said that people should feel safe and respected in a democratic system. He said that the recent campaign to remove squatters has caused panic among the general public.

Chief Minister Kandel said that it would not be appropriate to use dozers without studying the real situation and the living standards of the citizens. ‘We should find solutions by understanding their problems, not by suppressing the voice of the people,’ he said, ‘In a democracy, the people should be at the center.’

He said that the problems of the landless and squatters are not an issue that can be solved immediately, and that a long-term and practical policy is needed. He stressed that human sensitivity should also be given priority while conducting the government land protection campaign.

Chief Minister Kandel said that the issue of people’s livelihood should not be ignored while the government led by the National Independent Party, which won a majority after the 21 Falgun elections, is carrying out the government land protection campaign.

He reminded that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had made its pledge public from Karnali and urged the federal government to prioritize the needs of Karnali and the plans that the provincial government has been putting forward to it in the upcoming budget.
