Government spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel has claimed that the Constitutional Council has recommended Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma as the Chief Justice based on efficiency.
While the Constitutional Council is being criticized for recommending the fourth-ranked judge Sharma as the Chief Justice, he replied that the decision to recommend him to the post was made because he is not influenced by politics and is efficient.
‘This is probably the first time that we have made the recommendation of the Chief Justice based on the number of cases disposed of as an indicator,’ he said while making the decision of the Council of Ministers public on Friday. ‘This is not to say that this is a perfect system. But looking at the history so far, this is the first time that they have been recommended based on their efficiency. It should be improved gradually and made a better process. But we feel that the best process so far has already taken place.’
Spokesperson Pokharel also claimed that this is the first time in the history of Nepal that the Chief Justice has been appointed based on efficiency.
