Congress President Gagan Thapa is preparing to include the dissatisfied party in the Central Working Committee. He has moved forward with the nomination process after talks with then Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka and leader Shekhar Koirala.

Thapa and Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma met Khadka on Wednesday morning. Earlier, Thapa had also discussed with Koirala on Monday. After the meeting was positive, a Congress official said that preparations are underway to nominate the group that did not participate in the special general convention to the Central Working Committee.

The special general convention held on 27-30 Paush 2082 had elected a 134-member Central Working Committee under the leadership of Thapa. Former President Sher Bahadur Deuba and the Koirala group, who were opposed to the convention, had filed a writ petition in the court against the recognition given by the Election Commission. However, even after the Supreme Court gave legitimacy to the special general convention on 4 Baisakh, there has been no consensus on unity.

Although Koirala appears positive about the unity of the group, some leaders of the Deuba faction are still in favor of a separate campaign. They have been demanding a merger between the working committee elected from the 14th general convention and the working committee from the special general convention or the current working committee be converted into the organizing committee of the 15th general convention.

In particular, Congress leaders Prakash Man Singh, Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Bimalendra Nidhi are still reluctant to accept Thapa's leadership.

According to General Secretary Pradeep Poudel, efforts are being made to unite the disgruntled groups by giving maximum representation, which is why the nominations have been delayed.

According to the revised statute, the president has the right to nominate 61 people. There is a provision for 48 people from 8 clusters and 7 provinces and the rest from youth under 40 years of age, lateral entry and public relations committees based abroad.

Although efforts are being made to make the 15th General Convention scheduled for 16-19 Asoj a 'Unity General Convention', Poudel clarified that the condition of dissolving the working committee that emerged from the special general convention is not acceptable. According to him, it would be inconsistent to reject a structure that has already been legitimized by the Election Commission and the court, he said.
