The rope-laying work up to Camp-3 has been successfully completed as part of the ongoing spring climbing campaign in the Everest region. According to Rishiram Bhandari, General Secretary of the Expedition Operators Association of Nepal, the work was completed on Tuesday. From Wednesday, all expedition companies will start their rotation and establish the necessary camps. Earlier, after the route to Camp-1 and Camp-2 via Khumbu Icefall was prepared, the rope-laying (laying) team had moved forward with the work towards the upper part. The association expects that the process of climbing Everest will further accelerate with the completion of the rope-laying up to Camp-3. According to the Tourism Department, climbers at the base camp have now started gradually ascending towards the upper camp for acclimatization. If the weather remains favorable, the rope-laying work will continue from Camp-4 to the summit. The target is to complete the climb within 10 days.
A team of 10 experienced Sherpa climbers, who have been tasked with rigging and constructing routes on Everest and Lhotse for this season, have reached the upper camp from Kathmandu via Lukla on Chaitra 10.
They have taken on the responsibility of constructing the route from Camp-2 to the summit by rigging the route.
So far, 464 climbers from 47 teams have obtained permits to climb Everest. Similarly, 111 people have obtained permits for Lhotse and 52 people for Nupse.
According to the Department of Tourism, this year too, there is a significant number of domestic and foreign climbers in the Everest region. The department has stated that rope fixing, camp establishment and climbing activities have been carried out by adopting the necessary safety standards.
