Seven former ambassadors of Nepal to China have drawn the attention of the government to immediately initiate diplomatic initiatives to protect Nepal's international border.
They have also said that China and India should be sensitive to this, saying that Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura are an integral part of Nepal.
While India and China have agreed to use Nepal's Lipulekh route to reach Mansarovar and are preparing to implement it, Nepal has already objected to it. The government has also sent diplomatic correspondence to both countries on this issue.
In this backdrop, seven former ambassadors to China, Rajeshwor Acharya, Mahesh Maskey, Krishna Prasad Oli, Mahendra Pandey, Leelamani Poudel, Tanka Karki and Bishnupukar Shrestha, issued a joint statement on Monday and appealed for effective diplomatic initiatives to protect sovereignty. They have also mentioned that Nepal has always been steadfast in its one-China policy and that it can be further strengthened. Similarly, they have reminded the government of its unwavering commitment to prevent Nepal's land from being used against any friendly power.
One of the former ambassadors who issued the statement, Bishnupukar Shrestha, said that both China and India should respect Nepal's sovereignty and for that, Nepal also needs to take effective diplomatic initiatives with its clear position. 'Nepal's sovereignty must be respected. Both China and India should respect it.' Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura are Nepal's territory,' he said, 'It is a question of sovereignty for both countries to unilaterally agree on Nepal's territory and prepare to use Nepal's route. This is unacceptable to us. The government should take effective steps on this issue.' All seven ambassadors who issued the
statement have also appreciated the statement issued by the Nepalese government. 'China and Nepal should take the initiative to complete development projects with greater mutual cooperation in social and economic development than before.' We all agree that mutual relations should be strengthened not only at the government level but also at the people's level,' the appeal states. 'We believe that since Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura are integral parts of Nepal, our friendly countries China and India will be sensitive to Nepal's sovereignty. We appreciate the statement issued by the Nepal government and draw the government's attention to take immediate diplomatic initiatives to protect our sovereign borders.'
They have also expressed concern that the changing world politics has affected Nepal. In this regard, they have also mentioned that the government should adopt a sensitive and effective foreign policy.
