Neurosurgeon of Bir Hospital Kathmandu, Prof. Dr. Nilam Khadka, who reached Jumla for a yoga camp, has saved the life of a patient who had been referred by the hospital. He successfully performed surgery on Gor Bahadur Bohora of Chumgaun, Patarasi Rural Municipality-3. On April 18, Bohora, who was seriously injured after falling from the roof of his house, had a serious head injury.

He was brought to the institute in an unconscious state and put on a ventilator and needed immediate neurosurgery. But since there was no neurosurgeon at the institute, the hospital prepared to refer him. The plane did not take off due to the weather. The family of the patient who was about to be taken to Kathmandu was struggling with disappointment and pain amid financial constraints.

The Karnali Institute of Health Sciences does not have a neurosurgeon and even the necessary equipment. When a serious head-related patient comes, it is necessary to decide on referral before treatment. At the same time, neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. The news of Neelam Khadka's arrival was received. And the patient's relatives rushed to Jumla to arrange for the surgery. After facilitating the patient's financial situation and health condition, Dr. Khadka agreed to come to the hospital from the meditation camp. The blood clot in his head was removed. Bohora, who was standing on the verge of life and death, got a new life. Seeing the patient's condition, he dared to operate despite the lack of equipment. The hospital has now stated that the patient's health condition is improving.

Dr. Nirmal Thapa, head of the surgery department at the institution, said that many patients had to be referred due to the lack of a neurosurgeon. 'This was possible because Dr. Khadka came to Jumla by chance,' he said, 'such coincidences do not always happen.' Most of the patients are suffering.' Gor Bahadur's son Deepraj is happy that his father's surgery was done in Jumla.

This surgery at Karnali Institute of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Jumla is the biggest so far. Dr. Khadka, who also works as a neurosurgeon at the Trauma Center in Kathmandu, said that the surgery took about seven hours. Gor Bahadur, who is very poor, was not in a position to reach Kathmandu for treatment. Since he had to be rescued by helicopter, the patient's expenses would have been high. After receiving the news of Dr. Khadka's arrival in Jumla, the patient's relatives had requested for the surgery. 'The institute had already referred him, and it was possible because Dr. Khadka came to Jumla for the camp,' said Dr. Pujan Rokaya, the outgoing vice-chancellor of the institute.

The hospital did not even have the equipment required for neurosurgery. Dr. Khadka said that the surgery was possible with the help of materials left by the team that had come to the nose, ear and throat camp in the past. Dr. Khadka, who had come to Guthichaur rural municipality for a 10-day meditation camp, said that the surgery was successful in coordination with the hospital. ‘I had to get ready for the surgery only after the request of the relatives who said that the patient was not in a condition to go to Kathmandu,’ Dr. Khadka said, ‘There was no drill.’ At some point, the nose, ear and throat team had left. That made the surgery possible,’ he said.

Along with Dr. Khadka, a team including Dr. Nirmal Thapa and Ramesh Kafle, senior doctor of the emergency ward, were involved in the surgery. This free surgery has provided great relief to the patient. Gorakh Bahadur’s son-in-law Gorakh Bahadur Bohora said that Dr. Khadka’s efforts saved nearly two million rupees when the patient’s life was in danger.

The hospital has expressed happiness that Dr. Khadka saved the patient's life by performing the surgery in Jumla while they were planning to refer him for treatment. 'There was no neurosurgeon in the hospital. There was no equipment. There was no option but to send the patient to Kathmandu,' Dr. Rokaya said, 'Now the patient's life has been saved by being able to undergo the surgery in Jumla. This is a great relief for the hospital and the patient.'
