It has been revealed that 14 people from the same family were among those killed in a jeep accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon while they were heading towards Jaljala in Rolpa from Rukum East. This has left the people of Rukumkot, the district headquarters, in mourning.

According to Police Inspector Gopal Neupane, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Rukum East, Gorkha BC, 32, a resident of Sisne-5 Takura, his mother Tilkumari Budhathoki, 52, his 10-year-old son Divyan BC, and his 28-year-old sister-in-law Yubha BC died in the accident. Similarly, Gorkha's younger mother (aunt) Om Kumari Budhathoki, 40, Om Kumari's 24-year-old daughter Srijana Budhathoki, and his 13-year-old son Sudip Budhathoki died.

Yubha's mother Dropada GC, 54, a resident of Ghorahi-15 Ratanpur, father Yama Bahadur GC, 25, sister Alisa GC, and 32-year-old sister-in-law Tila Bista GC also lost their lives in the same incident.

According to a relative of Yuva, her husband Deepak had been in America for a few years. Yuva was preparing to go to America with her son to meet her husband. Yuva had already booked a ticket to America from Nepal on Baisakh 28.

Before going to America, it is said that she had reserved a car with her family and relatives to attend the puja to be held on Friday in Jaljala on the occasion of Purnima.

The other 5 people who lost their lives in this accident are the driver, 42-year-old Bedu Kami, a resident of Dang Shantinagar and currently residing in Sisne-5, and his mother-in-law, 60-year-old Mina Bik of Sisne-5.

Similarly, 60-year-old Laxmi Shah and 27-year-old Rukmina Basnet of Sisne-5 and Tek Prasad Budha of Bhume Rural Municipality-5 are the deceased.

All the bodies have been removed from the scene and brought to Thabang Rural Municipality Hospital for identification. Now 11 bodies will be brought to Rukum East District Hospital for postmortem, while the remaining 9 bodies will be handed over to their relatives after postmortem at District Hospital Rolpa, said Police Inspector Neupane.

On Thursday, while the jeep was going from Rukumkot to Jaljala in Rolpa, the accident occurred on a hill on the border of Thabang Rural Municipality-1 and 4. The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a four-member committee under the coordination of Lumbini Province Police Office Tulsipur Superintendent of Police Yadav Dhakal on Thursday to investigate the accident. The committee includes the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office Rolpa, the Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force Rolpa, and the Administrative Officer of the District Administration Office Rolpa.

This committee has been given the responsibility of studying the facts of the incident and submitting a report within 3 days. The details of the incident will come after the investigation, said DSP Khumananda Pandey, Chief of Police of Rukum East, who said that the vehicle entered various check posts from the District Police Office and that at that time it was said that there was 1 driver, 7 women and 4 men.
