Malaysia has extended the program for undocumented migrant workers to return home without imprisonment for another year. Undocumented workers will have to pay a fine to return home voluntarily.

According to a statement issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department on Thursday, the ‘Immigrant Repatriation Program 2.0’ has been extended until May 31, 2027. The program, which was implemented on May 19, 2025, expired on Thursday (April 30).

According to the Immigration Department, the program has been extended because it has been effective. Malaysia has continued this campaign to reduce the presence of undocumented migrant workers.

In the last one year, 254,186 undocumented workers from 112 countries, including Nepal, have returned home after paying a fine.

A fine of 500 ringgit will be paid for entering illegally and overstaying without a residence permit, 300 ringgit for violating visa conditions, and 20 ringgit for each ‘special pass’ issued as a temporary document.
