Four families of squatters living on the banks of the Bagmati River in Thapathali have been sent to the Radhaswamy Satsang Center in Kirtipur. They have been sent to Kirtipur among those who have come under the government's registration process.

A team from the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority and the Empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee is conducting 'screening' at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor.

The Authority's administration chief, Kabita KC Bogati, informed that the data of 23 families had been collected by 1:30 pm.

'We are collecting details including the number of families, names of householders and other details of the actual squatters. After that, we will send them to the designated 'shelter' for the time being,' she said. 'The government has made all arrangements for their food and accommodation in the shelter.'

Bogati informed that the state will start providing land in the second phase after the temporary settlement is managed.

After the illegally constructed structures in Thapathali were demolished, the families were brought to the stadium along with their belongings. Even now, the squatters are continuing to come to the stadium in search of government assistance, saying they have nowhere to go.

'The real squatters have come here, others have already made their own arrangements,' she said, 'Some families have come here but have left saying they will not stay in the place designated by the government.'

A team from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City's Health Division has been deployed to provide health facilities to the squatters inside the stadium. A team including doctors, nurses and paramedics has been deployed to minimize health complications while taking the squatter families to a safe place of residence, said Rishi Bhusal, the focal person for epidemic prevention and control of KMC.

While the work of removing the squatter settlements in Thapathali has been completed, the process of removing illegally constructed structures in the Sinamangal-Gairigaun area is currently underway.
