55 families displaced after the government removed unauthorized settlements on the banks of the river have contacted the metropolis for management. After the metropolis demolished the squatter settlements in Thapathali and Gairigaun on Saturday, the homeless families have come under the registration process for management.
According to Kathmandu Valley Development Authority Engineer Prakriti KC, 55 families have so far registered for the temporary shelter in Sundarighat, Kirtipur. Out of which 50 families were displaced from Thapathali and 5 families from Gairigaun. Officials said that 131 people from about 25 families have been transferred to the shelter in Sundarighat among those who have been contacted.
On Saturday afternoon, the metropolis team had completely removed the squatter settlement in Thapathali on the banks of the Bagmati. Metropolitan Police Force Chief Bishnu Joshi informed that the demolition of structures in the Thapathali area has been completed. "The structure has been demolished, and work is currently underway to move the goods from there," he said. "We have also removed 50 percent of the structure in Thapathali and Gairigaun areas."
The Metropolitan Police has stated that the Metropolitan Police will focus its bulldozers on the Manohara and Jadibuti areas as soon as the operations in Thapathali and Gairigaun are completed. "After completing the work in these two places, our team is preparing to reach the Manohara area with the bulldozer," said Police Chief Joshi.
