The government has decided to provide Rs 1 million to the family of Bipin Joshi, who lost his life in Israel.
Announcing the decision of the cabinet meeting, government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel said that it has been decided to provide Rs 1 million as financial assistance to the family.
Joshi, 24, had gone to Israel to study under the Learn and Earn program. He died in Gaza while being held hostage by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas took Bipin hostage from Alumim Kibbutz, a southern Israeli region bordering the Gaza Strip. A month later, the Israeli army found a video of Bipin alive.
Hamas handed over Bipin's body in October 2080 after an agreement was reached to release hostages and Palestinian prisoners as part of the first phase of the Middle East peace plan proposed by the US to end the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
According to a letter received by the family, it is claimed that Bipin died of a gunshot wound to the head. However, there is no independent confirmation yet as to when, where and under what circumstances he died. Hamas claims that Bipin died in an Israeli airstrike, while Israel claims that Hamas killed Bipin.
