The Kathmandu District Police Range has warned drivers involved in ride-sharing services that they will face action if they record personal conversations with passengers and post them on social media.

Police say that in recent times, there has been an increase in the tendency of some drivers to present their conversations with service recipients as video vlogs and make them public on social media, using abusive language. The police have issued a notice in this regard. If such videos are found, the Kathmandu District Police Range has also requested them to remove them immediately.

According to the range spokesperson, SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, such surveillance has been increased after such incidents started becoming widespread on social media. ‘We have been seeing such videos on social media as well. Videos are posted using obscene words that can be heard and disrupt social harmony. Verbal complaints have also been received,’ said SP Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range. ‘In the past, the police used to ask them to remove such videos and alert the concerned persons. But as such activities gradually became a problem, we have made this decision, prioritizing the privacy and respect of passengers.’

He also said that it would be against the law to take and publish photos or videos of any person without their permission. ‘Such activities violate the privacy of passengers,’ he said, ‘We will bring those who make such activities a profession to justice.’
