The Federation of Rural Municipalities has given 6-point suggestions to the government for the review of wards and municipalities.

The Federation has given 6-point suggestions to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, saying that it should be included in the draft of ‘Review of the number and boundaries of rural municipalities, municipalities and wards, criteria for merging local levels and reviewing classification, 2083’.

The Federation suggests that since the current 753 local levels are too many to effectively implement the responsibilities granted by the constitution, it should be reviewed to reduce it and increase the number of wards.

The Federation argues that it is not possible to do so before the local level elections of Baisakh 2084 as per the provisions of the Local Government Operation Act, 2074, which states that the work of changing the number, boundaries and merging with each other should be completed one year before the elections. The Federation argues that this type of review should not affect the regular election schedule as there is not enough time.
