The members of the Assets Investigation Commission, including the chairperson, led by a former Supreme Court judge, formed by the government, have taken the oath.
On Wednesday, Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla administered the oath to the chairperson, Rajendra Kumar Bhandari, while the members were administered the oath by him. The government has given the commission one year to complete its work.
The commission will investigate the assets of high-ranking officials since 2062. The members of the commission include former Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal Purushottam Parajuli and former High Court judge Chandiraj Dhakal, former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police Ganesh KC, and former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN).
The commission was formed by last week's cabinet meeting.
The government had formed the Assets, Liabilities and Expenses Investigation Commission to collect and investigate the assets of prominent political officials and high-ranking employees who held public office from 2062/63 BS to 2082/083 BS.
