A corruption case has been filed against former development commissioner of Kathmandu Valley Development Authority Bhaikaji Tiwari. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday filed a case against Tiwari in a special court, fixing a fine of Rs 105.495 million and a prison sentence. The CIAA has demanded a fine of Rs 105.495 million and confiscation of assets and imprisonment for abusing public office to amass illegal wealth. The CIAA has also made his wife Meenadevi Tiwari and daughter Meera Tiwari defendants for the purpose of confiscating the assets. The accused Tiwari had retired from government service and became the development commissioner of Kathmandu Valley Development Authority. According to CIAA spokesperson Suresh Neupane, Tiwari and his wife had legally earned Rs 145.191 million and other income and land sale proceeds. But the CIAA also stated that when examining their bank accounts, real estate and other assets, it was found to be worth 256.87 million rupees.

The CIAA also stated that the assets acquired illegally by abusing authority while holding public service positions were also found to be in the names of his wife and daughter.
