The National Vigilance Center has recommended action against more than 3,500 employees in the last two weeks. The number of employees who have been involved in the irregularities in ministries, departments and offices on behalf of the Center has increased.

The Center, a body under the Prime Minister, has increased its surveillance on employees with the formation of the new government. Center spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhatta said that monitoring was carried out in 188 government offices between Chaitra 16 and 30. He said that those who did not reach the office on time, were not found in their offices and were not wearing the prescribed uniform were brought under the ambit of action. The government has given Saturday and Sunday as holidays and fixed the office hours from 9 am to 5 pm. Those who did not reach the office by 9 am have been affected. Office hours have been implemented from 9 am from 23 Chaitra. Those who arrived at 9 am and 2 minutes have also been affected by the Vigilance Center.

A large number of 3,512 employees have been subject to disciplinary action in two weeks. In the last fiscal year, the center recommended disciplinary action against 5,937 employees across the country for not coming to the office on time. More than half of the employees were subject to disciplinary action within 15 days.

According to the information provided by the vigilance center, the highest number of employees, 1,243, were found absent in a single day in Maharajgunj, a teaching hospital. Similarly, 403 employees at Kanti Children's Hospital, 153 at Civil Hospital, and 120 at Patan Hospital have been recommended for disciplinary action.

Spokesperson Bhatta said that daily monitoring has been intensified regarding the service delivery of offices and the attendance and discipline of employees. 'Intensive monitoring has been carried out regularly.' The monitoring has been carried out in the ministries, central bodies, departments and district-level offices within Singha Durbar,' he told Kantipur. 'A letter has been sent to the head of the concerned office for action against employees who did not come to the office on time, were not found in the office or were not wearing uniforms.' He said that the information about the daily monitoring conducted by the vigilance center is being sent to the Prime Minister. Employees up to the level of joint secretary have been caught in the center's trap. Employees have expressed dissatisfaction over the recommendation of action for not coming on time and not wearing uniforms, despite not accepting it otherwise. The employees have expressed their dissatisfaction over being asked for an explanation for being present in their offices.'

'The vigilance has recommended action when they were elsewhere for office purposes after coming to the office for a meeting or instructions or information from a higher official,' said an employee of the Ministry of Health. 'This has increased fear among employees and lowered morale.' Kathmandu's traffic is like that, when you have to explain even when you show up at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, it is clear that they are trying to instill a fear mentality in the employees.'
