What was the caller, Sumit Nembang, 33, of Imadol, less ? After being scolded for calling whoever he found, he returned the ‘obscene abuse’ . Nepali, who had already been taken into police custody for indecent behavior, got even angrier . He asked, ‘Where are you ?’ .

Sumit did not hesitate, he told him that he was in Mangal Bazaar . Nepali, who works at a meat shop, went to meet him carrying a sharp weapon . ‘Since they had never met before, he asked them to come to the upper gate of the Krishna Temple,’ says Lalitpur Police Chief SSP Hovindra Bogati, ‘Accordingly, they met around 7:30.’

Sumit was accompanied by his brother, 25-year-old Srijat Nemwang, while Sanjeev took his friend Gagan Sunar, 22. ‘As soon as he arrived, a fight started. It seems that a fight broke out as soon as he showed a knife,’ says Bogati.

A video has also recently been made public on social media, in which the Nemwang brothers are seen beating up the Nepali. There were other people around at the time, but it does not appear that they went to separate them. ‘It all happened so fast that it was impossible to tell,’ says another officer involved in the investigation, ‘It seems that the incident happened in a minute.’

According to him, initially the two brothers beat him to death. At that time, the knife was also with him. When he fell from the temple and reached a little lower, he was seen getting up and stabbing Sumit. According to the police, the first blow was on his neck.

Sanjeev Nepali, who fled after the incident, was caught by the police after a brief chase. Police say that when police constable Shahan Bohora, working at the Mangal Bazaar police division, went to catch him, he initially tried to attack him.

‘After that, he did not stop searching for the documents, so he entered a shop,’ says SSP Bogati, ‘after that we were able to arrest Nepali.’ The organization has also honored Bohora for his bravery in catching the accused after the incident.

The accused Nepali himself was injured when he was arrested.

The police are currently investigating the crime of manslaughter by extending his remand and are also conducting regular health check-ups. ‘Currently, statements are being taken,’ says SSP Bogati, ‘we are interrogating various aspects.’

Police officers say they have never seen such a brutal and inhumane murder in such a small dispute. ‘There is an investigation to take action against those involved in the crime, but the aggression of the perpetrators is very serious,’ adds Bogati.

According to Nemwang’s family sources, their grandfather was working in the British Army. Their grandmother is still in the UK. Recently, the process of taking the Nemwang brothers there was also underway. In the meantime, both of them were killed.

Nepal Police Central Spokesperson Avinarayan Kafle The trend of killings due to personal impulses, revenge, family relations, financial transactions, etc., rather than organized involvement, has been increasing in recent times. In the fiscal year 2081/82, 522 people were murdered across the country, 296 of whom were men and 165 were women. In the previous fiscal year, 638 people were murdered across the country, 336 of whom were men and 200 were women.

Domestic violence, rape and dowry system are the main reasons for the murder of women and girls. Officials say that in other cases, disputes have been found to have started over common issues.

Officials say that the question of why people commit murders on impulse rather than any long-term plan or organized involvement is related to psychological issues.

‘Most of the recent murders are related to family issues, and there are also issues of social values and norms,’ says an officer. ‘Looking at the recent criminal incidents, people are disappointed. People seem to have lost control due to lack of resources and means to fulfill their desires and aspirations. In some cases, unemployment also seems to be a factor in crime.’

He says that many of the current murders should be viewed not only as ‘pure crimes’ but also in terms of people’s psychology, self-satisfaction and mental health. According to SSP Bogati, the accused in the Mangal Bazaar incident, Nepali, is said to have been ‘aggressive in nature’.

Bogati says that the police had questioned him only a few days before the incident. He says, ‘We are conducting a switch operation in Lalitpur to control crime, and he was also questioned on suspicion.’

The police say that further investigation is underway.
