Nepal is set to play two home series of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 next month. The first leg will see the UAE and Oman and the second leg will see Scotland and the USA play the League 2 series, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) said on Tuesday.
In the first leg series, Nepal will play against the UAE and Oman from April 25 and against Scotland and the USA from May 12 in the second leg series. Nepal will play a total of 8 One-Day Internationals, 2-2 against the UAE and Oman and Scotland and the USA. In that order, Nepal will play a total of 12 matches.
All the matches will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. These are the last two home series that Nepal is going to play in the 2024-27 cycle. Nepal played its first home series against Namibia and the Netherlands in Kirtipur in February 2024.
According to CAN, Nepal will play UAE on April 25, Oman on April 29, UAE on May 1 and Oman on May 5. The series involving Nepal, UAE and Oman was scheduled to be played from March 10. However, this series, which was postponed due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle Eastern country, is being played next month. Similarly, it will play Scotland on May 12, America on May 16, Scotland on May 18 and America on May 22.
In League 2, a team is scheduled to play a total of 36 matches, 12 at home, 12 away and at neutral ground. The top four teams in League 2 will qualify for the ODI World Cup qualifiers to be held next year.
America is at the top with 36 points from 24 matches. Scotland is second with 32 points from 26 matches, Netherlands is third with 28 points from 24 matches, Oman is fourth with 27 points from 22 matches, Canada is fifth with 21 points from 24 matches, Namibia is sixth with 20 points from 26 matches, Nepal is seventh with 12 points from 20 matches and UAE is eighth with 10 points from 20 matches.
The Nepali team lost all four matches in the series held in Dubai in October-November. Nepal's journey to League 2 was further jeopardized after losing 2-2 matches to UAE and USA. Nepal needs to finish at least in the top 6 in League 2 to maintain its One Day International status.
