The Supreme Court has summoned the government to discuss whether to issue an interim order on the legal basis of the government's decision not to give government advertisements to private media.

The bench of Supreme Court Justice Meghraj Pokharel ordered the government to appear in the discussion on the interim order after Tuesday's debate. The government has also been ordered to appear on March 30 for the discussion.

Nepal Media Society's authorized advocate Anantaraj Luintel had filed a writ petition on Monday challenging the advertisement ban imposed on the media.

In the debate held on Tuesday, Nepal Bar Association President Dr. Vijay Prasad Mishra, General Secretary Kedar Koirala, Senior Advocate Lalit Bahadur Basnet and advocates Anantaraj Luintel, Bikash Bhattarai, Kirtinath Sharma Poudel, Pratibha Upreti, Vishal Thapa, Bhakti Ram Ghimire and others demanded that the Supreme Court put a stop to the government's arbitrary attitude through an interim order.

In the debate, the central government had interfered in the executive powers of local governments and was acting against federalism, and urged them to stop that work.

The Media Society, an organization of publishers of major media outlets including national newspapers, has challenged the government's decision in the Supreme Court through advocate Luintel.

On 18 Chaitra, the government had issued a circular to all bodies to publish and broadcast government advertisements on government media.
