Kantipur Media Group (KMG) has separated from the Nepal Media Society. The organization's CEO Mahesh Swar took the decision to end its affiliation with the society on Tuesday.

KMG has announced that it has resigned from the society with effect from Chaitra 24, 2082. KMG, which has been associated as a founding member of the society, has come to the conclusion that it cannot continue as a member, expressing disagreement with some of the recent decisions taken by the society.

'We directly disagree with the decision taken by the Media Society to file a case against the government's decision not to give government advertisements to private sector media,' Mahesh Swarn said, 'After the organization proceeded with the process of filing a case without our consent, I have resigned institutionally and personally, thinking that it would be better to leave the organization than to remain in such a situation.'

The government had issued a circular on the 18th asking for information to be published/broadcast only in government media. The Media Society had expressed its disagreement and protested against this issue. Similarly, CEO Swar has also mentioned that he has resigned from the post of Vice Chairman of the Society's Executive Committee through the same letter. Kantipur Publications Limited and Kantipur Television Network Limited under KMG were the founding members of the Society.

'Our organization disagrees with some of the decisions made by the Society recently,' he wrote in his resignation. 'Despite these disagreements, we are unable to continue as members of the Nepal Media Society, so I would like to inform you that we have separated from the membership with effect from today.'

KMG Executive Director Sambhav Sirohia had assured that the government's latest decision has ended the corrupt system and that they are not dependent on government advertising. 'The government has ended the advertising income of private media. It has been good,' Sirohia wrote on social media, 'It was a corrupt system worth 3 billion, 70 percent of which was eaten by middlemen. We were not dependent on it, we will survive, as always.'
