The task force formed by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to prepare the 'Constitutional Amendment Debate Paper' has become active. The formation of this task force was provided for in point number 4 of the '100-point agenda on governance reforms' made public by the government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Chaitra 13.

The agenda mentions that the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers will form the task force within 7 days to build a national consensus on issues including the country's long-term political and institutional reforms and the electoral system. In addition, the goal is to make the debate process participatory, transparent and fact-based.

In accordance with the same plan, the Council of Ministers meeting on Chaitra 16 decided to form the task force under the coordination of the Prime Minister's political advisor Asim Shah. The task force will consist of one representative each from the political parties represented in the federal parliament, the secretary of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers' Office in charge of law and human rights, the secretary of the Nepal Law Commission, and the joint secretary of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers' Office in charge of law and decision implementation as member-secretaries.

According to the Prime Minister's press and research expert, correspondence has been sent to political parties to send names for the task force members, and the process of receiving names from the parties is ongoing.

Preparations are underway to hold a meeting of the task force within this week as soon as the members are finalized. There is a plan to collect the opinions and suggestions of the members in the meeting. After that, the task force will complete the constitution amendment discussion paper only after conducting extensive discussions in stages with former presidents, constitutional experts, legal professionals, former Chief Justices, media, religious organizations, the private sector, leaders of the 'Gen-G' generation, and representatives of the local level.

Task Force Coordinator Shah has over 20 years of experience working as a journalist and reporting on parliamentary affairs. He is also considered successful in directing films.

Former MP Shah, elected from the National Independent Party in the 2079 elections, played an important role in preparing drafts of various bills while in Parliament. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Mass Communication from Kathmandu University.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers is confident that Shah's experience in communication strategy, politics and coordination, who played a decisive role in creating an environment of political cooperation between Rashtriya Swatantra Party President Ravi Lamichhane and Prime Minister Shah, will help in preparing this comprehensive discussion paper.
