Newly appointed Attorney General Narayan Dutt Kandel has taken the oath of office and secrecy before Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Sapna Pradhan Malla on Sunday. Kandel was appointed as the Attorney General by President Ram Chandra Poudel on Sunday on the recommendation of Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam, judges and high-ranking officials of the Judicial Service were present on the occasion.

Kandel, from Kathekhola Rural Municipality-5 in Baglung, has a PhD in ‘Freedom of Expression’ from the UK.

Kandel was appointed to the vacant post after the resignation of Savita Baral Bhandari. The Attorney General serves as the legal advisor to the government. The Attorney General is responsible for defending government-related cases. He was the legal practitioner of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane.
