Raskumari KC, 17, of Tripurasundari Municipality-7, Pahada, gave birth on the road. She was rushed to the District Hospital in Dunai after suffering from labor pains since Wednesday morning. The baby died shortly after birth. According to MDGP of the District Hospital, Dr. Bidur Tiwari, she gave birth to a 'premature' baby at 31 weeks due to lack of regular health check-ups during delivery. He said that the baby died due to this. Dr. Tiwari said, 'Although the mother and baby were taken to the district hospital within an hour to save them, the baby was confirmed dead during the check-up. The mother's health condition is normal. Dr. Tiwari said that the necessary tests were not done during the pregnancy and this increased the risk.
Chief District Officer Junu Hamal expressed grief over the failure to save the baby's life despite the helicopter's rescue initiative immediately after receiving information about the incident. She said that it is unfortunate that such incidents are happening again and again due to the lack of well-equipped hospitals in remote areas, lack of road access and lack of public awareness.
This incident has shown that child marriage is still a major problem in remote areas. A few weeks ago, a woman gave birth on the road in Tripurakot. She said that the government needs to build well-equipped hospitals in remote areas, expand quality road access to villages and conduct effective public awareness programs.
