Relatives of 22-year-old Sirjana Budha Magar (Gita), who was found burnt to death in Koreanpur, Nepalgunj, Banke, have protested in front of the District Police Office, expressing dissatisfaction with the police statement.
22-year-old Sirjana Magar, who was found burnt to death on the road on Sunday morning, was already dead when she was rescued by the police and taken to the hospital. Angry over the statement issued by the police, the relatives of the deceased staged a protest at the District Police Office gate on Monday. They allege that the police provided relief to the perpetrator.
According to the police, a police team immediately reached the scene after receiving information about a woman setting herself on fire on the road in Koreanpur at around 11:35 pm on Saturday. The injured woman was immediately rescued and taken to Bheri Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at 9:20 am on Sunday. According to the police, although initial investigations showed that the woman died of burns, the cause has not been determined. The police have intensified the investigation, saying the nature of the incident appears suspicious.
The deceased woman also has a three-year-old daughter. She was divorced from her husband and had been in love with a local youth, 24-year-old Md. Arif Dhapali, for a few years. The deceased Sirjana reported to the police on Chaitra 13 that he had beaten her, and Arif Dhapali was arrested on the same night.
The arrested Dhapali was kept in the custody of the District Police Office, Banke and released on Chaitra 14 after agreeing to live together. However, Sirjana was found burnt the next day.
